Parabens, p-hydroxybenzoic acid esters, a group of artificial preservatives commonly used in cosmetics, fragrances and personal care products, and sometimes in food and medications. They prevent bacteria and fungi growth. Some parabens can irritate the skin or cause allergic reactions.
